Bridging the Financial Gap

For decades, most low-income households and small businesses in Somalia had little to no access to credit facilities. Recognizing this gap, Himilo Microfinance Institution (Himilo MFI) was established with a clear purpose: to improve the quality and accessibility of financial services for poor and unbanked Somalis.

Himilo MFI was founded and licensed by the Central Bank of Somalia in 2021 as a pioneering Shariah-compliant microfinance institution. From its inception, Himilo has been dedicated to serving underserved communities and enabling them to participate in the formal financial sector.

With a strong commitment to financial inclusion, Himilo MFI was created to empower economically disadvantaged individuals, particularly women, youth, and small business owners by offering a range of tailored financial solutions.

2021

Founded and licensed by the Central Bank of Somalia as a pioneering Shariah-compliant microfinance institution dedicated to financial inclusion.

Service Expansion

2022-2024

Expanded services to include MSME financing, group lending, fisheries & livestock financing, asset financing, agribusiness, and renewable energy financing.

Operating through 7 full-service branches and multiple service agencies across Somalia, reaching over 9,000 individuals and enterprises.
