Himilo Microfinance Institution was born out of a desire to improve both the quality and accessibility of financial services available to poor and unbanked Somalis.
Himilo MFI is a microfinance institution that provides a Sharia compliant products and services. It is established to offer much-needed financial services to economically active poor and low-income households, small scale entrepreneurs especially women, youth, and nascent businesses, who would otherwise not have access to such services.

July 9, 2023 – Garowe: Himilo Microfinance, headquartered in Garowe, welcomed a distinguished group from the United States. Among them were Sheikh Tawakal Ismail, a well-known Sheikh and community leader from Minnesota, and Ali Isse, who is a deputy director of the congresswoman’s office. Drs. Ikraan and Marwa from the Minnesota Global Health Alliance (GHA), a community-based non-governmental organization committed to addressing global health disparities.
GHA was founded by a group of individuals with diverse backgrounds united by a common goal of enhancing healthcare. GHA provides essential services aimed at addressing healthcare disparities globally. It offers vital services intended to alleviate healthcare inequities in the United States and around the world.
The meeting addressed the importance of leveraging the economic potential of the Somali diaspora for the sustainable development of the country and how they can contribute to the company’s vision of supporting small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to stimulate economic growth and create employment opportunities in Somalia.
