Warsame is a certified Public Accountant (CPA) and member of American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) with extensive experience in the field of accounting, public finance, and assurance services. He is a full member of AICPA (1999), CGMA (2012), CIPFA (2021) and SICPA (2022). He’s also a licensed auditor registered at Delaware State Board of Accountancy, USA. Academically, he holds a BSc in accounting and management from SIDAM Institute (1990), MBA in management from AUL London (2003), and MA in peace from UN University of Peace which is still in progress. He teaches Public Finance and CIPFA Diploma/Certificate courses at East Africa University and frequently lectures at different universities in Somalia.
Mr. Warsame was the former CEO of Golis Telecom Somalia (2012-2013) and served as Puntland Minister of Education (2014-2015). He was also Puntland presidential candidate (2014). On 2018, he was contracted as a lead consultant by VU Amsterdam University & Care International to undertake a study in public-private partnership project in Puntland Higher Education & the business sector. Used to work in UAE as a Financial Controller at Abu Dhabi Educational Zone (Ministry of Education) in 1998 and then moved to Abu Dhabi Accountability Authority (formerly known as Abu Dhabi Audit Authority) as an Auditor/Senior-in-charge in 2001. Warsame used to live in UK working as a Tax Consultant & Business Advisor at Falcon Associates Accountants (2004-2011) before he moved to Somalia to be part of the country’s state building process.
