Himilo Microfinance Institution was born out of a desire to improve both the quality and accessibility of financial services available to poor and unbanked Somalis.

We are microfinance institution that provides sharia compliant products and services. We offer much – needed financial services t economically active poor and low-income households, small scale entrepreneurs especially women, youth and nascent businesses, who would otherwise not have access to such services.

Access to credit in Somalia for many of the poor, low-income households, and the business they manage are all too starved often for finance. In Somalia there are number of commercial banks who offer investment for business but with hard to meet requirements including collaterals, grantors and many more.

Board of directors
Warsame is a certified Public Accountant (CPA) and member of American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) with extensive experience in the field of accounting, public finance, and assurance services. He is a full member of AICPA (1999), CGMA (2012), CIPFA (2021) and SICPA (2022). He's also a licensed auditor registered at Delaware State Board of Accountancy, USA. Academically, he holds a BSc in accounting and management from SIDAM Institute (1990), MBA in management from AUL London (2003), and MA in peace from UN University of Peace which is still in progress.

Mohamed Ismail Mohamed (MSc.) and currently PHD candidate for the Program of Peace, Governance and Development at UPEACE has over 30 years of working experience in different fields including diplomacy, training, accountancy and auditing in the private sector, advocacy, research, business, consultancy and statesman. He has MSc (Public Policy and Management) from King’s College London, University of London and a B. Com from University of Poona in Accounting and Auditing; Senior Manager Nonprofit Leadership Institute from Minnesota Council of Nonprofits; a host of Leadership seminars and Leadership Certificates from BWW in the United States.

Independent Director & Vice- chairman of the Board

Osman is Chartered Accountant with over 20 years’ Financial Management & Audit experience. He worked for many organizations (private and public sector). His area with extensive experience includes; Public Financial Management - financial reporting, audit, domestic revenue mobilization and budgeting. For last 13 years he has been delivering professional courses such as ACCA, CIPFA, IFRS, IPSAS and other financial management training to government employees in Somalia under donor funded projects managed by World Bank and UNDP.

Abdishakour has over 12 years of working experience in in local economic development, local governance, Project Coordination & Management, Research, Monitoring & Evaluation from various sectors including public institutions, civil society organizations, international & local NGOs, and private sector development. He has an MBA majoring project management from Omdurman University (2009), and a Bachelor of arts in economics and managerial science from International University of Africa, Khartoum Sudan. He also holds a postgraduate diploma in accounting and finance from Juba University, Khartoum, Sudan. He has been working as a national program officer (Municipal governance and finance) with UN-Habitat Somalia.

Ibrahim has over 10 years of working experience in application support, Information Technology management, Data analysis, Project Coordination & Management, Research, and Monitoring & Evaluation from various sectors including public institutions, civil society organizations, international & local NGOs, and international companies. He has MSc (Information Technology) and a Bachelor of Computer Science (Honors) from International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; Certificate of Training of Trainers (ToT) from IFC Business Edge, WBG; Cost Modeling and Regulatory Framework, Management & Compliance from International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

Muse holds a Master’s degree in public administration from Kampala International University, a post graduate diploma in statistics and data analysis from Makerere University and a bachelor’s degree in Business administration from the East Africa University. He holds various certifications in NGO Management, Project cycle management, Community mobilization and dissemination methods, result based management and proposal development, Monitoring and evaluation in organizational success and a competence based curriculum and development certificate.

Yassin Mohamud Jama is one of the Somali diasporas who has returned to their original home, keen to contribute to the country’s development; He holds a Bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory science from St Cloud State University - St cloud, MN, USA. Yassin is an entrepreneur who established and manages a successful technology-based company called PII Tech, LLC which works with the Puntland state government for mobilizing and collecting road tax. His motivation to invest in Somalia, was driven by a desire to transfer the knowledge and skills gained from the USA to help Somalia get back on track.

Director

Over 10 years’ experience in financial management, management consulting and hold relevant qualifications including membership of the CMA and Public Financial Management qualification from the IMF Institute for Capacity Development (ICD), MA Islamic Banking, Finance and Management. Recent experience included three years in a financial management role similar to this one, a project funded by Islamic Development Bank in the Federal Government of Somalia. The role required to account all transactions in a matter consistent with financing agreement, accounting policies and procedures and IsDB procurement guidelines.
